Mang-GROW-ve Planting
Growing Youth Participation against Illegal Drug Use
The YES Organization took part in the Kabataan Kontra Droga launching through a Mangrove Planting Activity on November 21, 2019 at Sitio Nabangka Brgy. Capuluan Central Guinayangan, Quezon.
Because of the considerable number of youth engaging in illegal drugs, the activity aims to encourage students of Nabangka National High School to look for activities that would make their spare time productive. The theme “Pag-iwas sa Droga ng Milenyong Aktibo, YES Kami Dito” emphasizes youth active engagement to combat illegal drugs and grow numbers of youth that would foster love for environment and at the same time love for humanity.
“Mangrove planting is another way to avoid the students from using illegal drugs devoting their leisure time in helping the environment for the future”, said Romel Abanilla, YES-O President.
The activity was participated by 9 BSP and 23 YES-O members. Mangrove propagules were gathered at Sitio Punta of the same barangay.
According to the data, 47 mangroves were planted in an estimated area of 54 square meters that would help sustain the marine life in the area. The planting activity lasted for two hours started by a demonstration on how mangroves will be planted and ended with a picture taking.
Mangroves are the nursery of small fishes. Though can propagate by itself, sometimes nature needs human intervention so that we could secure food supply for the years to come.
