Because of the alarming number of dengue cases in the municipality and in the area as well, YES Organization initiated the School-wide Clean Up Drive on July 26, 2019 from 8:00 to 10:00 am. As per advised by the Local Government Unit (LGU) of Guinayangan, the activity was conducted in school compound participated by the NNHS faculty, personnel, staff, and students, Barangay Officials and volunteers.
School data shows that 16 students have acquired dengue virus from June to July only of the current school year. From that, the school administration felt that there really is a need for an intensive clean up drive that would benefit not only the school but the community as well.
To ensure that the school compound is mosquito-free, the organization prepared a map that shows the area designated for each section to be cleaned. Each section was advised to bring Personal Protective Equipment and sacks for trash that may be found in the area. Also, cleaning and removing stuffs with stagnant water where mosquito can freely lay and fertilize eggs was reiterated thus leaving no room for Aedis egypti (dengue carrier) to thrive.
Prizes were given at the end of the activity to boost students’ participation. Most Organized Section, Cleanest Area, and Greener Hands were given, to name a few.
Among the winners are Grade 10- Yakal (Most Organized) Grade 9- Strawberry( Most Cooperative) Grade 8- Hyacinth( Most Cleanest Area)
“Prevention is better than cure. It is better that we maintain our surroundings clean especially to those places where we spend the most time with. This is not only done to prevent mosquitos from spreading dengue virus but also to avert acquiring any other sickness as well”, said Romel.
Cleaning is just one and simple yet very vital in ensuring an environment conducive and safe for students to learn. It should always be kept in mind that cleanliness is next to Godliness.
